Mametoyo performed a traditional dance for us. To become a geisha, a maiko must learn many things: traditional dances and songs, playing musical instruments (especially the samisen - a 4-string lute), the art of conversation and how to serve food and drink. An evening with a fully-trained geisha can cost $10,000 or more!
