At the Shrine, we met with Miki Shimada and her three daughters. We had been introduced to Miki via e-mail from close friends of ours in Philadelphia, the Van Burens. Sarah Van Buren's mother had started a pen-pal relationship with Miki's mother and the relationship carried over to the daughters. Miki has been to the U.S. many times and her youngest daughter was born in Michigan! Anyway, they live near the Nezu Jinja Shrine and we arranged to meet them there. We did not meet her husband, Masakazu, as he was working.
