After 5 days in and around Amsterdam, we began our cruise on the Viking longboat. It is not one long river between Amsterdam and Budapest (and onward) but rather a connection of rivers and canals with locks. From Amsterdam, we were on the Rhine. Our first stop was Kinderdijk, a World Unesco site. These windmills were built in the 18th century to control flooding.
