We also toured the Peterhof Palace (called the Grand Palace) planned by Tsar Peter the Great to be the "Russian Versailles". It was built in the first half of the 18th century across the inlet of the Baltic from Saint Petersburg. Water from natural springs are collected here in the Upper Gardens to feed the fountains on the other side of the Grand Palace in the Lower Gardens (see subsequent photos).
